Physical and Mental Relaxation Tips

Aloha! Do you get sore and tired muscles? Are you sleeping well at night? Do you get headaches?

We have some great tips and tools to help you relax physically and mentally!

Sore Muscles

When your muscles are feeling sore we recommend soothing them! After you have worked out or been doing something intense, make sure to give some self love to those sore muscles with a cooling down period and stretching exercises. Cooling down with some stretches after a speeds up recovery and reduces soreness.

If you’re feeling chronic pain or soreness that doesn’t seem to go away, use a heat pad to help relax and loosen tissues and to stimulate blood flow to the area. You can also try taking a warm shower or bath, or running over specific sore spots with a massage gun, tennis ball or a Theracane. For best results, you can also try speaking with one Aloha Spa’s massage therapists for customized massage therapy.

Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep is so important! Some of us have a prescription and others use melatonin to help them sleep. A very select few can fall asleep anywhere and stay asleep while the rest of us stare in pure envy.

Some tricks we tell people to help settle their brains is when the sun starts to set, turn down the lights in your home. Use lamps over recessed lights. Start to get your brain to think about sleep, even if it is hours away.

So many times we are scrolling through social media, working or distracted in some sort of way before bed. Stop using your phone and other electronics at least two hours before going to bed. It sounds crazy, but it helps!

Headaches

A headache is a pain in your head or face that’s often described as a pressure that’s throbbing, constant, sharp or dull. Anyone that’s had a headaches before know that they are one of the worst things around!

To help keep headaches at bay we have a few tricks.

  • HYDRATE: Drink a lot of water! According to Harvard Medical, “insufficient fluid intake can cause headaches. Some people are much more prone than others to headaches related to dehydration, and people who are more susceptible can avoid the headaches by making sure they drink enough fluids daily.
  • MASSAGE: Work out the knots in your neck, your shoulders and back with massage. Find a therapist who understands your body and can work it in the right way for you. Use tools at home to maintain the work from your massage.
  • BREATHE: Practice breathing techniques. Take time during meditation and breath. Take time before falling asleep and breathe. In through your mouth out through your nose.

We have lots of fun tips and tricks to share. Keep following along as we help you find the best self-care routines.
