Hyperbaric Therapy

What is Hyperbaric Therapy?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen from inside a pressurized chamber. The chamber is designed to increase air pressure, allowing your lungs to take in more oxygen than you would normally breathe at sea level.

By staying in a high-pressure, oxygen-rich environment, increased oxygen levels are delivered to both red blood cells and plasma which boosts cell growth towards healing and a stronger auto-immune system. This can help to promote healing and reduce inflammation. This can help to promote healing and reduce inflammation.

Hyperbaric Benefits

Medical professionals have long understood and recognized the benefits for hyperbaric chambers. The chamber creates enriched oxygen environments to boost the immune system and increase blood oxygen concentration to damaged tissue. This can help to regenerate tissue and blood vessels resulting in an improved ability for your body to heal. HBOT has several additional advantages and benefits, including:
  1. Increased oxygen delivery: HBOT increases the amount of oxygen in the blood and tissues, which can improve the body’s ability to heal and fight infections. This is especially beneficial for patients with conditions that involve tissue damage or poor blood flow, such as wounds, burns, and radiation injury.
  2. Reduced inflammation: HBOT can help reduce inflammation in the body, which is beneficial for patients with inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease. By reducing inflammation, HBOT can help improve symptoms and promote healing.
  3. Improved immune function: HBOT has been shown to improve immune function by increasing the production of white blood cells and other immune cells. This can be beneficial for patients with infections or compromised immune systems.
  4. Few side effects: HBOT is generally considered safe and has few side effects when performed by trained professionals. Common side effects may include ear pain, sinus pain, and mild fatigue, which typically resolve after the treatment is completed.
  5. Versatile application: HBOT can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including chronic wounds, infections, traumatic brain injury, and many others. This makes it a versatile treatment option for patients who may not respond well to other treatments.

Hyperbaric Therapy is Used to Treat

Decreased oxygen levels can be caused by factors such as injury, aging, or stress. This can result in tissues in your body not getting an adequate supply of oxygen needed to function. Hyperbaric Therapy can be used to counteract this and treat conditions such as:

  • Sports Injuries
  • Inflammation
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Burns
  • Anemia
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Decompression sickness
  • Air or gas embolism
  • Crushing injury
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Gangrene
  • Skin or bone infection
  • Radiation injury
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Sudden and painless vision loss

COVID-19

There is limited scientific research that gives evidence to support the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in the treatment of COVID-19. It has been used in some cases to support the management of severe respiratory distress in COVID-19 patients.

During Treatment

What to Wear
You may wear any type of clothing in the chamber; however, comfortable and soft clothing is typically used. Do not wear shoes inside the chamber.
What to Bring into the Chamber
Feel free to bring food, drinks, books and personal computers, DVD players or any other form of entertainment into the chamber. It may also be helpful to have your cell phone with you. We ask that you refrain from bringing in sharp objects such as forks or knives.
Compliance

Our hyperbaric chambers are Class II medical devices cleared by the FDA requiring a prescription. As we are constantly developing new technology to improve our chambers, there may be photo or video footage that doesn’t quite match your chamber.
